Our Approach to Certainty in Decisions

SEAM - Semantic Enterprise Architecture Management

Interconnecting Information Creates Certainty in Decisions

Information Needs for Enterprise Architectures

Current and accurate information is the basis of any enterprise architecture. In addittion to dedicated experts, numerous data sources with relevant information exist in enterprises. Examples include strategic objectives, process descriptions, software documentation, interface specifications, service repositories, project plans, release plans or infrastructure documentation.

Due to their wide spread as well as different syntax and semantics these sources are usually not directly usable for enterprise architecutre management. Data are instead merged manually and fragmentarily to perform single analyses and to support decision. Inconsistent or incorrect information and a lack of automatic support for the analyses lead to uncertain results.

A Semantic Information Base as a Foundation

A semantic enterprise architecture management utilises new technologies in the field of Semantic Web to integrate heterogeneous and distributed data sources step by step. Not only syntactic but also semantic conflicts in the information are bridged. Data no longer exist in isolation of single data sources, but are related to each other as a whole.

Information for the enterprise architecture management and results from the architecture work steadily enrich the resulting information base. This leads to a robust information collection for analyses in the enterprise architecture, which can be fully supported by machines. Queries are answered by special algorithms, which take all available information and dependencies as well as their semantics into account.

Transparency and Ability to Provide Insights

With a semantic enterprise architecture management the manual effort of information maintenance is being reduced. Data are integrated from different sources at runtime and thus are always up-to-date for analyses. Also, other persons may rely on the gathered information.

The formalization of an enterprise architecture using semantic technologies enables intelligent consistency checks and dependency analyses especially across various data sources. At the same time the use of automated tools for the enterprise architecture management is possible  e.g. for the transformation planning of changes in your enterprise architecture.

All used technologies are available as open standards and thus offering a high security for your investment.
